Trip to Nogas Island, Antique

Antique is a province of Philippines located in the Western Visayas Region. Antique was one of the three old sakups (districts) of Panay before the Spanish colonizers arrived in the islands. The Antique was then known as Hantik, which was named after the large red ants found on the island, called hantik. The Spanish chroniclers, however, recorded it as "Hantique" in the French manner. Later, the initial "h" was dropped, and the name officially became "Antique." Unlike the Englisrm "antique", the province is pronounced "ahn-tee-keh.

Nogas Island is a 24-hectare government naval reservation island with a lighthouse. It is 3 miles from the shoreline of Anini-y town proper and can be accessed by sailboat or motorboat within 20 minutes. 


Nogas Island is an uninhabited marine sanctuary located at Anini-y, AntiquePhilippines. Since it is a protected area, visiting Nogas Island is regulated. To go there, you must register first at Sira-an Hot spring, where you need to pay a Php 20.00 environmental fee. It is surrounded by flourishing mangroves and white sand beaches. Nogas Island has wonderful marine life with colorful corals reefs and various species fishes even at shallow waters.

Calachuchi-Lined Path to the Lighthouse. Many years ago each side of the path were planted with fragrant Frangipani bushes or locally called Calachuchi. The trees have grown to create a flowering bower over the entire path.

Lighthouse was located at the center part of Nogas Island.


The view from Nogas Island light house is great! We actually stayed there I think for almost 20 minutes just taking pictures.

Balete tree or also called as Ficus or Bantayan tree. Continue walking beyond the lighthouse and you'll come to this tree. This tree is thought by many Filipinos to be a home to various spirit beings, mostly troublesome.
